API Evangelist reads Techstars’s portfolio the way a machine reads it — not the demo-day pitch, the evidence. Techstars has run accelerator programs across dozens of cities for more than a decade and funded thousands of companies, and its public portfolio resolves into the catalog with 141 companies that ship a public API could be pulled, parsed, and scored on the same rubric applied to Stripe. This report is about those 141, because the interface is the part of an accelerator’s book you can actually inspect years after the batch photo — and in Techstars’s case the interfaces tell a story the branding does not.

Here is the headline, and it is a shape, not a number. Techstars looks like an accelerator — 70 of its 141 API providers are agent-native (50%), the joint-highest rate of any deeply-harvested fund, tied with Y Combinator — and it has almost no ceiling: just four companies clear the 70-point exemplar band, and two of them, SendGrid and Twilio, are the same Twilio-family communications lineage. The mean composite of 46.1 is the lowest of any deeply-harvested fund scored, governance averages 24.7 with three-quarters of the good half of the book at a flat zero, and the agent-native rate is breadth by classification, not depth — 76% “has MCP,” but exactly three companies ship a real hosted server. This is not YC’s born-agentic nursery. It is an older book: early-2010s SaaS and API-first cohorts that shipped clean specs, ranked well on discoverability, and never built the agentic or governance layer on top.
